As many of us are parents pondering the world that we live in seeking the very best practices to guide our children to the most productive, successful, and happy lives that they can experience, I believe that there is much within the gospel that can help in uniting us and guiding us to valuable life principles. As one example Sister Linda Reeves has taught us this. “How do we lead our children to deep conversion and to access our Savior’s Atonement? I love the prophet Nephi’s declaration of what his people did to fortify the youth of his day: “We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, [and] we prophesy of Christ . . . that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.”
I really like that scripture and this example for the valuable conversations and practices that should be occurring in our lives. It is so easy for us to be distracted within the world, and even in the church. We have so much to keep us busy, such as scripture study, callings, and other church responsibilities, but I feel that it is vital that we do not forget the focus of what all of the differing things are for. If we focus on Christ I believe that the lessons that can be taught and applied in the lives of our children will be of great value, vs. focusing on things that are actually meant to point us towards him in the first place.
